No to ethnicity based Federalism in Nepal: NC leader Deuba

Telegraph Nepal

Former Prime Minister and senior Nepali congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the proposal forwarded by the so-called expert commission on State Restructuring was not acceptable to his party.

Cat is out of the bag.

The proposal is not aimed at preserving the territorial integrity of the country rather it encourages disintegration of the nation-state, said Deuba speaking at a program in Kathmandu, February 14, 2012.

“The proposal does not look like being drafted by experts. It gives the impression that it is drafted by immature individuals.”

Is he referring to NOIDA veterans posted under the guise of “experts”?

“The Nepali Congress does not accept federalism based on ethnicity,” he made it clear.

Speaking at the same program former prime minister and panchayati stalwart Lokendra Bahadur Chand held that the issue of state restructuring is a serious one and should be handled in a grave manner.

Bhim Rawal of United Marxist Leninist Party was of the view that the report gives the impression being drafted by some NGO/INGO sponsored bunch of people.

Rawal also opposed federalism based on ethnicity.

By the way, Mr. Rawal is very close to the US Embassy in Nepal, so had claimed a US embassy leaked cable (Wiki Leaks).

Well said Mr. Rawal.
