Nepal PM aide Sunil defends Bhattarai’s merger remarks: Media

Telegraph Nepal

Prime Minister Baburam’s political aide Devendra Poudel ‘Sunil’ issuing a statement on Thursday has blamed the Nepali media for distorting Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai’s ‘Lendhup’ sort of remarks.

“The prime minister had only said,” claims Sunil, “If our economy fails to become a vibrant bridge between Indian and Chinese economy, the Nepali economy could submerge eventually. He had used word ‘submerge’ but it is being misinterpreted as merging with either India or China”.

Nepal’s senior journalist Dhurba Hari Adhikari in his write-up for Kantipur National Daily, February 1, 2012, had heavily criticized the prime minister for his erratic remarks and claimed that the likelihood of merger with India remains intact in the present context as none of the political parties have criticized the Prime Minister for his anti-national remarks which Adhikari believes was the silent acceptance to Baburam merger theory.

Lendhups galore.

Sunil says in his statement further, “Some media have been intentionally and or carelessly referring to ‘merger’ instead of taking up the used word ‘submerge’ which has created confusion in the minds of nationalist population. I would like to express my sorrow (but for what?) and appeal the population not to get confused by the media reports.”

Thus as usual, the media has been made the escape goat.

  • But how can a word submerge be linked to merge with India if the word India did not come together with it and if the words China and India are far away from it. Why does the PM have to keep saying things even a child knows. Each country's economy will submerge (but where?) if things go wrong, everybody knows that. Be careful Mr. PM. What Nepal needs to do now is and this is getting very important, pass a law that if anybody talks about disintegration or secession or is anti-nationalist till that level where they talk about the independence and sovereignty of the country, they should be put behind bars and for a very long time. Even the PM or the President, if they ever say it. Maybe a few hoodlums don't care about our country, but we do and we are watching. Why do our politicians keep on behaving like cheap activists that they always get into one controversy after another. The biggest thing our politicians have to learn is to stop lying. Becaue lying gets people to many things that kinda slip out of the tongue.

  • Does our PhD prime minister not realize that 'submerge' is even worse than 'merge'. Merger implies to entities such as business companies pooling their strengths to achieve a bigger result, e.g. the European Union which merged many European countries into a common market. Submerge implies drowning, death and loss of identity, e.g Sikkim drowned into India, New Mexico and Alaska merged into the United States etc. Ati baatho bhae pachhi nai kaag le $h!^# khanchha re!

  • What about continous merging of Nepali land on southern part, how about nepali being kicked on daily basis ??? Baburam does not know nepal is being merged but other wise leaders know process is on , so they got furious for his ignorance.
