Nepal Maoists wish to quit from ongoing peace process: Poudel

Telegraph Nepal

“Our party has become grave”, so says Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress-the party which has already the path of a dangerous slide.

Words like, grave, sensible, state capture and increased sensitivity have become common in Nepali politics. Albeit, the word load shedding too has its market in “dark” Nepal.

Political leaders more often than not make such utterances wherein they inevitably sling mud at each other. Normal phenomenon now in Nepal.

However, Poudel has become suddenly grave because he thinks that the “Maoists were all set to reverse the peace process”.

Which peace and what process?

“The Maoists wish to quit from the ongoing peace process”, said Poudel adding such acts of the Maoists have forced us to become grave and sensible.

According to Poudel, the Maoists prefer to keep on hold the decisions made by the “People’s Government” for some time but not have a preference to reverse the entire decision freshly taken by the Bhattarai led government.

Because of the Maoists irresponsible behaviour, the peace process still remains in a limbo, claims Poudel and adds, “That is why we have yet to discuss the internal nitty-gritty of the new constitution”.

Poudel made these interesting observations while talking to Dainik Patra, January 26, 2012.

  • Mr Poudel's reading may be correct to some extent in the sense almost 15 yrs relentless effort on the part of Maoists seems NOT bearing desired result-they are more or less tired and fed up. They were on the active role and the opposition were on passive role. Now the Role need to be changed for good. The opposition should take on the job of peace process and constitution writing if they wish good of the nation.
