Born in Dhikurpokhari- a far-flung village in the district of Kaski in a deprived family, the ‘revolutionary’ Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Unified Maoists Party who now resides in a posh bungalow in Lazimpat-Kathmandu’s posh area, had last week invited senior United Marxist Leninist Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal to discuss and possibly find solution to the unending political deadlock.
Nothing tangible came out of the meeting between the two communist leaders.
Dahal’s family sources however, claim that due to security reasons the family decided to leave the bungalow at Nayabazaar.
Even Girija Babu had advised the Chairman to leave the building at Nayabazaar, Chairman Dahal’s nephew Samir Dahal is quoted as saying by the media.
Dahal and his family were provided with a nice apartment in Noida (close to New Delhi) during the peoples’ revolt, eyewitness claim. Albeit by the Indian regime.
On Thursday 26 January 2012, Dahal managed somehow or the other to arrange a meeting between the leaders of three major parties including the party he leads at his new Palace.
The Nepali Congress and United Marxist Leninist leaders were invited. Poor NC and UML leaders urged Dahal to make environment favourable for the peace and constitutional processes to move ahead smoothly. For that they claimed, the government must immediately withdraw the cabinet decision to legalize the land transactions carried out by the then ´people´s government´ during the conflict period. The NC and UML leaders insisted during the meeting that unless the decision was not revoked by the Maoists no other issues related to peace and constitutional process will be discussed.
Who cares to such threats?
Interestingly, during the meeting, senior vice chairman Mohan Baidya Kiran had told the NC and UML leaders point-blank that, “The government will not withdraw the decision. The decision is appropriate. The NC and UML will be held responsible if the peace and constitutional process suffers a setback due to this reason. ”
After his second visit at the Dahal’s new bungalow, talking to journalists told Mr. Madhav Nepal, “We could reach no conclusion as the Maoists refused to revoke the decision”.
Similarly, Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress also told reporters that the Maoists were apparently keen to abandon all the previous agreements.
In all, the two meetings so far held at Dahal’s new residence have been a failure. Yet the meetings have provided the Dhikurpokhari born Maoists’ Chairman with the opportunity to put on display his new bungalow. Revolutionary politics ends in Lazimpat.
Financial experts in Nepal believe that of all businesses, politics has the highest return on investment. Dahal could be one of the glaring examples, with no investment he has achieved this much colossal, claim his sharp detractors. Anyway, the world over communist leaders are known for their luxurious lifestyles save a committed few.
Keep it up Communists! Nepali people count on you all.
