Nepal’s unfortunate opposition parties, ( that they are) Nepali Congress and the United Marxist Leninists have urged Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to tender his resignation.
To recall, both the parties had pleaded in the similar manner when King Gyanendra was holding over state powers in the past. Later Gyanendra was overpowered when mighty India forced the then Nepali Maoists rebels living under their protection to join hands with the unpopular Ratnapark-to-Ratnapark political parties. The parties would hold a Ratnapark rallies in series for months and months but to no avail until the Maoists’ party cadres inundated the Kathmandu valley.
Addressing a parliamentary session on Friday, poor parliamentarians representing UML and NC asked the PM to resign if he fails to complete peace and constitutional tasks.
The NC Chief Whip Laxman Prasad Ghimire just went berserk. He said that the fresh remarks made by the Maoist’s Party leaders meant that the party was not in favour of completing the peace process.
Some of the Maoists party leaders have been threatening to derail the peace process if their demand for presidential system with executive powers not accepted by the parties.
Resignation and Bhattarai run in parallel.
Nanada Kishore Pun Pasang and Dinanath Sharma of Unified Maoists had made similar remark in the recent past.
Ghimire claimed, “The Maoists want to draft the constitution and hold general elections while keeping the PLA intact.”
Prime Minister Bhattarai, reminded Ghimire, had assured that he will complete the peace process within 45 days after his election as the prime minister. Let alone completing the peace process in 45 days, the process is in an obstructed state, added Ghimire.
The UML parliamentarian Rabindra Adhikari suggested Prime Minister Bhattarai to tender his resignation to allow preface process move forward.
