Forceful call for Nepal CA dissolution: Irritation taking shape

Telegraph Nepal

Except ‘death’ every other thing have suitable ‘alternative’. The question is whether there lay any suitable alternative to the Constituent Assembly or not?

Some renowned leaders of Civil Society, politicians, senior journalists, senior advocates and litterateurs in Nepal have demanded the immediate dissolution of the Constituent Assembly.

They say that the Constituent Assembly that has failed to draft the Constitution should be dissolved with immediate effect as it also poses threat to Nepal’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.

The public call for CA dissolution has come few days after the caretaker Nepal government registered a bill in the parliament relating to the further extension of Constituent Assembly by three months.

The joint statement made public on Friday August 26, 2011 reads, “We are aware that the extension bill of the CA has been filed at the parliament. The political parties of Nepal have been shamelessly extending the CA term only to establish their ‘futile agenda’ to draft the Constitution in an ‘unnatural manner’.”

The statement is signed by Kumar Regmi, Jagdish Ghimire, Jyoti Baniya, PL Singh, Prakash Raut, Bharat Basnet, Bhimarjun Acharya, Sher Bahadur K.C., Sambhu Thapa, Dinesh Satyal ‘Saurav’, Satya Mohan Joshi and Yubraj Ghimire.

“The political parties and their leaders under one pretext or the other are keen on inviting direct foreign intervention in the country. The so-called civil society, human right agencies and their self declared leaders are also indifferent towards peace, political stability and consolidation of democratic order in the country.”

“The parties represented in the constituent assembly also want the country vanish from the world map. Each second of life of the Constituent Assembly poses direct threat to the sovereignty of the country.”

The corrupt political parties, civil society and others have been amassing wealth in the name of Constituent Assembly, they have also alleged.

“We have no faith in the so-called Naya Nepal and its leaders that advocate ethnic, cultural and geographical discord among the public”, the statement reads and concludes, “The sole agenda of the contemporary political leaders is to amass wealth through politics.”

  • I have absolute support to dissolution of CA from immediate effect from 31 August. All CA members have made CA as their corporation only to get salary and perks. They have fear of loosing their job from next day of CA dissolution that is why their nexus exhibits regarding extension of CA terms in eleventh hour of expiry of CA terms. They are banded looters of state coffer. Nothing bad happens to the country administration after CA dissolution. Make simply round table conference of constitution experts who prepare ideal Constitution for the country in few months time I guarantee. This is how we can save public money from looters.
