Justice Bastola pounces upon Nepal political leadership: Report

Telegraph Nepal

After open allegation by the heads of various security agencies that political leadership is to be held mainly responsible for criminalization of Nepali society, now the honored men in judiciary too have begun blaming the political parties for repeatedly breaking laws of the land.

“Earlier the Kings used to promulgate constitution to the countrymen, the Kings themselves used to be engaged in unconstitutional acts…now the political parties draft the constitution, we see that they too carryout unconstitutional acts like what the Kings did in the past”, said Honorable justice Gopal Prasad Bastola of Sankhuwasabha district Court in Chainpur, July 3, 2011. He made the high voltage remark at an interaction program organized by INSEC (Informal Sector Service Center) in Chainpur.

“I find the parties deliberately ignoring the constitutional provisions”, said Justice Bastola.

Justice Bastola was of the view that the interim constitution was drafted as preferred by the political parties which suited them most. The parties are themselves responsible for the current sorry state of peace in the country.
