Prime Minister Jhal Nath Khanal said at the United Marxist Leninists Steering Committee meeting, March 17, 2011 that if his party resisted his personal decision to award Ministry of Home Affairs to the Unified Maoists’ Party, he would pleasingly tender his resignation as the country’s prime minister.
PM Khanal made the remark when pressurized by some steering committee members that Maoists should not be allowed to lead the security sensitive ministries.
“I have already given my words, if I fail, I will tender my resignation, I expect the party to support me in this situation”, Khanal told point-blank sources reveal.
Khanal has not been able to provide a full shape to his cabinet for all along forty three days of his becoming the nation’s Prime Minister.
In saying so Khanal rather than putting pressures on his party leaders might have instead pleased his detractors within the party.
Nepal-Oli duo would jubilantly celebrate if Khanal sticks to his words by tendering the resignation.
Some alien forces too will have some solace if Khanal resigned from the Prime Ministerial post for some understandable reasons.
Khanal also told that since the Maoists made sacrifices to elevate him as country’s prime minister he would also fulfill his commitment.
Obligation must be repaid.
K.P. Sharma Oli, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bidya Bhanadari, Ishwar Pokharel and Shankar Pokharel one after another criticized the Prime Minister and said that he cannot take any decision on his own that would go against party’s decision.
The topple Khanal machinery remains in place, it appears.
