We the fools of Nepal

telegraph editorials

The national population across the length and breadth of the country are left with no other suitable option than to begin repenting as to why they elevated the ranks of their people’s representatives’ during the last CA poll. The panic of the first CA remains intact though. The new burden has been a bonus.

The fact is that any election or for that matter hilarious event makes the Nepalese people too much excited hoping against hope, that has always been there since early 1950s, and they conclude that this has come to them as a festival and thus prefer to enjoy it to the hilt. They even forget that their unwanted and unwarranted excitement may land them in trouble time permitting. This they understand but yet the festival enjoyment remains. However, when the festivities are over, now it is invariably the time for the participating voters of the “most expensive” festival to repent and some may hopefully even shed tears concluding that the men they voted for turned out to be a noted thug of the Himalayan order.  The political goons are aplenty who have been cheating “we the foolish people” that we are which have by now been justifiably proved.

The festivals come at regular intervals thanks the republican order, an order nobody has understood so far as to what it literally means and for whom it has been in force in the country since a couple of years approaching a decade or so.

That we are a foolish lot has many a times been proved but yet we prefer to become fools again and again by forgetting the past cheat and deceit made to the nation and its population by those whom we the fools voted and have been voting since long. We the people thus have every logical reason to believe that we shall be fooled as and when our leaders, better call them State Looters, wish to make us fools. Forgetting the chaotic past associated with sheer humiliation, we the fools once again get excited and begin loitering around the declared and proven fools at time of the imposed polls under this or that pretext.

Talking of the Constituent Assembly polls, we were energetic while casting our votes to our preferred ones with the hope that the nation may see the lights of development and lo! The development come to the door steps of the poll winners and we the fools are mercilessly forced to watch as to how the personalities develop overnight using fair or even foul methods-the latter is more comfortable for the political thugs.

Politics is a business. It gives a chance to those engaged in politics to loot the nation in a legal manner. However, illegal means extract more financial bounties in a short time and thus our political animals use the shortcut methods and make their life not only easier but the accumulated wealth is to the tune which could sustain three coming generations to come without going to the Gulf countries, that some unfortunate ones who have no say in national politics and remain in an unemployed state, have been feeling the brunt of the scorching and unbearable heat of the countries wherein they have stationed themselves for some years so that they could feed their ailing and financially weak family members back home.

How many unemployed youths have been leaving the nation for good each day in search of better lives is still a mystery, however, some statistics mention that some twenty lakh youths have already left the country, made a wretched one indeed, to sustain their families back home.  This chaotic trend is in progress.

A time will soon come when those not engaged in politics too will have to find their ways to Arabian nations or for that matter apply for refugee status in some countries which have such arrangements.

Those who will remain in Nepal will have to embrace polls in series as is expected that the incumbent CA body too is unlikely to draft the new Constitution on time and thus an environment is at hand which suggests that Nepal will soon have to embrace the expensive third CA poll. Symptoms to this effect are already visible and thus we the fools will have one more time to become the tail of the political class whom we prefer though reluctantly.

Though Comrade Oli is dead against having the third CA election.

Even if there is the third CA poll, the same ugly faces have fair chances to dominate the political scene and thus the repetition of the same ugly and dirty habits are awaiting “we the fools”.

Despite several insulting hiccups, we the fools will feel once again tempted to serve the political lobbies hoping against hope that soon a day will come to us which perhaps will never come to the aspiring fools-the innocent souls of Nepal. That’s all for this week.
