Why some people prefer to misinform? Why some twist the facts and figures? Why yet some others distort the historically proven facts? And more over why some high placed politicians cheat the people? Facts can’t be ignored or twisted. Be it known to all.
Have they gone senile? Or were very close suffering from senility? Or at best, have they been told to present the things in a deformed manner by some alien forces? Marionettes galore in our country.
This we leave up to the readers to come at a conclusion on their own upon listening to the story that we are about to break here in these columns.
Very freshly, Nepal’s noted conspiratorial but political brain, honorable Surya Bahadur Thapa, while talking to a local television channel claimed in a forceful manner that , in his own words, “ India never acted as an agent for political changes in Nepal”. Clean chit?
Thapa, a master brain in Nepali politics was talking absurd and a white lie which can’t be digested; let’s presume it to happen so, by his own family members let alone his distant relatives now residing in Kathmandu and the rest in his hometown Biratnagar.
Thapa who has remained, as far as we and the Nepali sharp brains understand, a beneficiary of the entire system experimented in Nepal which is no more and no less than a political laboratory wherein successive rulers and “namesake” democrats, imposed or homegrown, have ruled this country at different intervals of time. Thapa, for example, was perhaps the most fortunate person during the “active leadership” of the Nepal monarchy who became Prime Minister of this wretched country for umpteen times and is reported to have, under pressure or in his own whims, invited desertification in Nepal, if one were to recall his Panchayat referendum days. Thapa is still recalled in a negative manner by the informed denizens of the country as the one who not only misguided the Nepal Kings but also facilitated the Indian regime to penetrate in the Nepali affairs. It is because of Thapa’s negative benevolence that the Indian Ambassadors posted in Nepal flex their muscles even in the interior parts of Nepal without informing the foreign ministry, if it at all could be taken as a ministry. It is talked in Nepal’s political circuit that the Indian Ambassadors have traveled more inside Nepal than the Nepali leaders or for that matter the former monarch(s). The idea is to keep an eye on China because the Indian diplomats generally prefer to roam around the Northern border of Nepal which adjoins China’s Tibetan plateau. The trips to those areas become thus meaningful.
Let’s come to the point now as we got deviated from our main story.
Thapa claims that India never acted like a catalytic agent for any of the political changes in Nepal that began right from the beginning of the end of the Rana oligarchy and with the ushering in of democracy, if it were at all. Thapa at the fag end of his political career must have spoken the truth as was honestly expected of him by the general population. Interestingly, Thapa is the single surviving political personality in the entire country who has remained as a witness to all those political changes which were manufactured by the Indian regime beginning 1950. The Panchayat regime of which Thapa remained as a strong pillar at best survived for all along three decades because of the blessing of Pundit Nehru and her daughter Indira. Later, the playboy Pilot Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi under the spell of fanaticism preferred to “teach a lesson” to then King Birendra of Nepal. The 1990 change was the fresh gift to Nepali democrats (?) offered by Rajiv-the son of Feroz Gandhi. The Rajiv imposed democracy did not work well in Nepal and thus a few Nepalese were seduced by the Indian regime that later turned as ferocious Maoists and were told to dismantle the entire system to be replaced by a new one which could serve the Indian interests. The Maoists created havoc in their own country under alien instructions which needs no further elaboration because each and every Nepali national is a eyewitness to what damage this nation suffered and the precious lives the so called “incomplete” people’s war took? And now Mohan Baidya talks of nationalism? How funny it sounds?
The end result was the regime change which also did away with the Royal institution of Nepal in 2006. Thapa understands well as to how the regime changed and which country facilitated this change yet he mercilessly ignores and distorts the facts for some mysterious reasons.
To boot, Thapa never speaks. However, whenever he speaks, he speaks other’s voice. Normally it is taken in Nepal that as and when Thapa airs his views then he ventilates the fresh political stance of the Indian regime on Nepal. May be it could have been this reason that to preempt the upcoming India sponsored political changes (?) Thapa has been used by the friend across the border to prepare the background for yet another change which, we have been told, is already in the pipeline.
Thapa’s utterances can’t thus be dismissed just by forwarding his eighty plus age. Thapa is a staunch Royalist and an equally trusted friend of the Indian republic, born 1947. Let’s presume that Thapa has been made to speak so, as mentioned above, and begin guessing as to which political change India is thinking for Nepal?
Yet we dismiss Thapa’s jocular comments wherein he tries to shield his second home away from his first and original home-Nepal. Let’s begin analyzing as to why Thapa has been used as a political tool? With profound respect and honor for this senior Nepali leader, analysts suggest him to come to his senses and speak the facts. He is the son of the Nepali soil.
The old man should speak the truth with accuracy. The people would appreciate if he speaks his inner conscience. Will he? Perhaps never.
We wish senior Thapa a good health and long life.
