Think and Dream of Nepal!

The shopping spree this Dashain is no less significant than the previous ones. The Terai and Eastern Pahade mayhem has not made greater impact on the Dashian purchasing habit of the Kathmanduites. Though there is the slightest of fear among the mostly displaced Nepalese in Kathmandu-who come here in search of job and easy life that they may not finally reach their homes to celebrate this occasion of festivity.

The Chakkajams, Bundhs along the East-West Highway and frequent looting and vandal attacks on public vehicles have made people to ponder over their own security first while heading home. Obviously, the easy going attitude of the majority Nepali may finally prevail. “We will celebrate Dashain wherever we are”, this is perhaps the general feeling.

A lot more street vendors sell imported products in the streets of Kathmandu and else where. It is only natural that the Chinese products adapting to the ever sliding Nepali economy do much better in Nepal however, the Indian products too have become cheaper as competition grew courtesy the Chinese ones. People rich or poor wear almost the same attire, though the quality may be different, said a cloth vendor in Bhrikutimandap-the Mecca of Chinese products in Kathmandu.

At the political level we the Nepali people have very well comprehended that our corrupt leadership is unable to spell a single word in favor of our national interests. Physically our territorial integrity is being challenged more often than not and in a concealed manner our politics is being manipulated from out of the country. Academicians, nationalists do question regularly if the current leadership can ship the country out of the current tide seen in the country’s political ocean. The latest among the series of failures on the part of the government is the indefinite deferral of all important CA elections- thus the future of Nepali people is uncertain courtesy our own leadership.

The security situation is at the lowest ever recorded. The brutal killing of a toddler(8) who was first abducted while returning home from School and later callously murdered in the heart of Kathmandu is one among several incidents of such magnitudes that demand plausible response form the leadership. However, incidents as such cannot be simply justified saying that the country is undergoing a transition. And the question thus asked is after all how long the transition is. Just contemplate what this Dashain has brought to the family of the dead child? Will they ever forget the catastrophe of this magnitude that fell in their family in the years to come when Dashain reappears?

Nevertheless, this Dashain a correction to all our past follies is demanded if we are to greet a new Nepal. A new Nepal, where people can feel secured first, live life happy in peace and prosperity and above all remain a Nepali forever where there would be no threat to our sovereignty and manage our matters our self.

Also, finally let’s not ignore our own products this Dashain. Let’s not dump our own produces by claiming that they were below standard. Let us promote our own textiles this Dashain. Let’s spare more time looking for Nepali products and finally promote our own products.

Let’s think of Nepal. Be a Nepali. Dream of Nepal. Lately, manage a political atmosphere wherein we will not have to be subservient to alien interests.
