Mother of Republic
No matter the Maoists’ claim they are the real mother of this nascent republic but their call for talks with the Malik prior they formed alliance with the democratic parties until a simple CA proclamation overthrew Nepali monarchy…all make it clear now that the Maoists had something else in their mind but not to make monarchy their prey.
Perhaps the Maoists and Gyanendra’s advisers had one thing in their mind and that to kill the democratic order. Common interests converged.
This might be only true when Congress leaders make public speeches but they know it internally that it was not true. This also does not mean in any way that the Nepali Congress and the United Marxist Leaders who were not ruling the roost then were the most democratic and read protectors of the democratic order and opposite to it would be that the royalists and Maoists were the most undemocratic.
New Agreement
The deeply hurt Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur for him being labeled as inefficient and most incompetent by the former King claimed just the other day that the 12-Point Agreement was necessary to overthrow monarchy.
He was not asked if 12-Point Agreement was needed at all…he just thought to clarify. But why he did? Yes...he claimed that an agreement much similar to the 12-Point one but of much higher accommodation was needed to be signed between major stake holders of Nepal…immediately, to address political problems plaguing the country.
Such views have already been expressed by Comrade Dahal in the past. If leaders of the likes of Deuba and Prachanda feel it necessary then what is the harm in signing yet another agreement which will ultimately replace the New Delhi based 12-Point Agreement. But, more interesting would be to see the clauses of the elusive agreement since it was being proposed by two former royalists, say critics.
Deuba and Prachanda- royalists?
This is what the NC and Maoists’ insiders claim. Dr. Babu Ram Bhattatrai can tell perhaps the degree of Prachanda’s Palace bend.
Deuba’s turning republican from a staunch monarchist after Gyanendra’s misadventure to call him inefficient and Gyanendra ignoring call for a sitting by Prachanda too contributed to Monarchy’s downfall to which both Deuba and Prachanda regret internally. Else why would Prachanda claim Nepali politics is having India leaning after Monarchy abolished? He even claimed that the Royal Palace of Nepal has been shifted to New Delhi. He perhaps knew in advance when he signed the 12-Point agreement in New Delhi. But he had to sign and he did sign. Compulsion factor perhaps!
Dr. Yadav in New Delhi
No National holiday was declared when head of the state left home for a four day state visit to Southern Neighbor India, February 15, 2010.
It is being rumored that the President himself had asked the government to make his State visit as simple as possible. And, he also preferred not to be greeted by Panchakanya- the virgin farewell prior he left to Delhi from Kathmandu.
Yadav may have taken those revolutionary steps that may set the precedence but since he failed not to make his first destination abroad to India, he some way or the other accepted India’s historical presence in Nepali politics. The compulsion factor again.
