Ram Dev: Misison China Snub

TGW

An undiplomatic gesture that was not unexpected though from an Indian Yoga Guru Ram Dev, who seemed not to posses any knowledge whatsoever of the strategic geopolitical situation of South Asia, upon landing in Kathmandu March 26, 2010, drew his six day yoga camp into controversy and above all an embarrassment to the Indian establishment itself.

Ram Dev’s Yoga Camp began March 27, 2010, and will end on April 1, 2010.

Though Ram Dev expressed his serious reservations over growing Chinese presence here, he also forwarded an open challenge to China to open the border with Nepal if it can?

“There are nearly 50 lakh Nepalese working in India. China should also allow such access to Nepali citizens. If it doesn’t it will expose its evil design of trying to gain control over Nepal,” he said at a press meet.

Do Baba Ram Dev’s somewhat awkward remarks, who recently declared his entrance into India’s politics, represent his personal views or that of India’s political leadership?

Whether it was a deliberate anti-China outburst from a Nationalist Indian remain so far unknown?

Indian Nationalism, as the Nepalese have understood, is nothing but anti-China outburst and hatred against Pakistan.

Look how he makes a brazen comment against China.

“If China is the real well-wisher of Nepal then it should open its borders with this country and make the to and fro movement of Nepalese into China free…China should provide employment to the Nepalese else it does not have good intentions on Nepal”, said Baba Ram Dev immediately upon his arrival in Kathmandu, Friday.

Whether the open border with China will only facilitate the Nepalese from entering China or it will also ease China to bulldoze India’s socio-cultural, economic, security and political interests in Nepal is an open question now?

His remarks, critics say is an open invitation for the Han settlers, who have already threatened the sanctity of Tibet-the annexed part of China, to settle in Nepal and thus bring an end to India’s overt and covert presence in Nepal.

Ram Dev not only criticized China, Nepal’s friendly northern neighbor, but also criticized his own country-Bharat.

“Mata Sita and Lord Buddha belong to Nepal…they are the Nepalese pride”, he said adding, “India is misinforming the world about Lord Buddha’s birth, I strongly deplore this Indian act.”

Surprisingly, Ram Dev’s remarks are in contradiction to what he claims in his book “Jeevan Darshan”.

In the book claims this Indian swami that he is proud to be born in the country where Lord Buddha was also born, India. Ram Dev was born in India.

Look what he says in the e-Book, Page 6, Jeevan Darsha: Solutions to Unanswered Questions of Life:

I am extremely fortunate to have taken birth on the soil of this holy and pure country, which has also been the birthplace of divine personalities such as Shri Krishna, Buddha, Mahavir, Guru Nanakdev and Guru Govind Singh, brave heroes such as Maharana Pratap, Chattrapati Shivaji, Chandrashekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose, Ram Prasad Bismil, Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Ashfaq, and holy souls such as Maharshi Dayanand and Swami Vivekanand. I pray to Mother India while offering the flower of my life.”

This double standard of the Indian Swamy.

Fresh media reports here in Nepal claim that India was carrying out massive construction works of a fake birth place of Budhha, Lumbini in the state of Uttar Pradesh and misinforming the Indian public that Lord Buddha was born in India.

The Avenues Television Channel had only last week carried out a comprehensive report that claimed that some 20 Kilometers South of Nepal’s Kapilvastu across the border in the State of Uttar Pradesh, India was carrying out construction works of a fake Kapilvastu and it was in an unashamed manner claiming that Lord Buddha was born at the place-the fake Kapilvastu.

The Television Channel also reported that India’s academic texts and Tourist & Travel guides have been claiming that Buddha was born in India.

“I urge India not misinform the public”, Ram Dev also said.

  • Guru Yoga Ram Dev's correction that Buddha was born in Nepal is an acceptance of his mistake in his book. Don't make big issue of this. Ram Dev is a great man and loves Nepal more than most Nepali politicians.

  • Some naive people might think that Ramdev is promoting Nepali-Indian harmony. But the fact is that he knows that he has more supporters in Nepal than in India. That is why he made the comments about Lord Buddha and Mother Sita. His comments on Sino-Nepalese relations and his past comments prove that he is a charlatan and a thief. I am tired of Nepalis supporting this damn dhoti.

  • Why is this Baba coming and preaching Politics in Nepal? He should mind his business and concentrate in Yoga only. There are many such Babas in Nepal, Some genuine some false we have to kick all of them out.

  • The journo who reported this is naive - The Baba know what he's saying - he's trying to say look how much India does for Nepal - does China? He knows China will never dare open it's borders as if it does it's not the han Chinese who will come into Nepal - it will be the Biharis and Tibetans with easily aquired Nepali citizenships infiltrating Tibet. That's what he's getting at buddy boy. What would that do for China?

  • Patanjali in his Yogsutra says, “Yogas Chitta Britti Nirodha”, ie, To cease the vibration of consciousness is Yoga. But recently, it seems Yogi Ramdev’s consciousness in vibrating in a high pitch, be it while bashing the Indian government, Multinational companies, or now the new target, China. When a yogi starts commenting like a politician, what are politicians supposed to do? start being yogis? haha… Anyways, Ramdev is just an ordinary yogi, and there are millions of yogis in India and Nepal, in each nook and corner of cities and villages. Perhaps what makes Ramdev unique is that his left eye flickers incessantly, while the right eye is as fixed open as that of a snake. Can anyone explain what is the reason? One explanation can be: he is a split personality, one part Yogi, another part very ambitious businessman-politician. And the idea of demanding China opening border for Nepalese to work in China is out-rightly absurd and childish (businessman-politician part, perhaps). If he is a real well wisher of Nepal and considers Nepalese market (an in that Chinese market) of his Ayurvedic products, let me kiddingly suggest him to demand the Bhutan King to let Nepali speaking Bhutanee Refugees in Nepal to return to Bhutan and live PEACEfully and have jobs there. Or, open the border between India and Bangladesh, or even Pakistan. Can he or would he be willing to do that? And let us be clear, yoga is basically a secular way of life, and tinting it with religion or god is childish, as most yogis are doing, and it is not a property of any nation or community - that can be turned into their intellectual property. It is a world heritage. Even China, Japan, has similar practice, in Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kong, Zen Buddhism etc. Before the time of Buddha and after his Nirvana, there were smooth interaction between India and China in religious matters, and they learned a lot from each other. China-fobia of some Indian mind is problematic, and the thinking of some Indian minds that China and India are mutually exclusive domain, is unrealistic, and ignoring the stark reality that they were and are basically mutually complementary forces, that can change the face of the world in near future. And criticizing others, is basically inferiority-turned-pseudo-superiority complex in the part of the criticizers. Yoga is a way of life, to live holistically, but when a so called yogi, lowers himself to living fragmentary life, the onlooker can only say, “Poor Yogi! Yeh bhi gaya kaamse!”

  • Dear Ramdev baba, thanks for saying that Lord Buddha and Goddess Sita belong to Nepal. I would urge you to learn Nepali and take up Nepali citizenship. Represent Nepal to the world. Nepal is the cradle of hinduism. Nepal has more to do with hinduism than India does.
