Nepal: Nationalism card

N. P. Upadhyaya

Kathmandu: Mudslinging has already begun. This phenomenon, though not unusual in Nepal, is sure to take its heavy toll this time around.

NOIDA champions have reasons to fall flat.

The NC and the UML have intensified attacks on the Nepal Maoists-the Indian creation to a large extent.

The parties opposing the Maoists dishonesty have now some unexpected political advantages and that is also for free. The unexpected gift to the so called “parliamentary parties” has fortunately come from the Maoist quarters’ itself for the Mohan Baidya panel, taken as the hardliners by the India sponsored lobby but considered as a nationalist group right here in Nepal including former Nepal sovereign King Gyanendra, has already declared that they will soon begin a fight to finish campaign against the two opposing camps inside their own party led respectively by Chairman Prachanda and Vice Chairman Babu Ram Bhattarai. The declaration has already been made.

Baidya panel has vowed to “expose” the anti-national credentials of Chairman Prachanda and Bhattarai. The crusade has already taken a dangerous start. Sindhuli’s Gajurel is in the frontline on behalf of Mohan Baidya.

Interestingly, Mohan Baidya and his ilk who thrived over the years by being the shadow of Prachanda has suddenly come to his senses and perhaps he and his entire team now believe that he and his entire panel was not only cheated but duped by Party Chairman Prachanda in the name of a “sponsored” people’s war which was not his own party’s brain child. Is this the delayed realisation? Better late than never.

Question thus becomes pertinent as to why Mohan Baidya who claims himself as the sole guardian of Nepali nationalism, sovereignty and territorial integrity could not even guess that his own party chairman and his NOIDA assistants were conspiring against Nepal’s sovereignty by being in Delhi as honoured guests? Mohan Baidya was all along with his party’s top colleagues yet he could not guess that he was being duped? Unbelievable! Why all of a sudden the love and honour for mother Nepal has erupted in the body and soul of Mohan Baidya and his so called nationalist team? Or was he kept in the dark? Yet the question is how come an intelligent ideologue personality of the sort of Mohan Baidya took Dahal-Bhattarai duo at their face value and assisted them with full force in pouncing upon his own motherland? Baidya hails from Dang district. The damage caused then was colossal indeed.

These were some of the questions which Mohan Baidya in all his honesty must explain and convince the population that he was mistaken in his evaluation of his own leaders? He is thus answerable.

Or is it that Mohan Baidya is initiating this “expose” Dahal-Bhattarai campaign out of vengeance because he and his team was summarily ignored while the Bhattarai cabinet was taking a formal shape some months back?

Fortunately, JNU cabinet is full of corrupts and the ministers are hitting the media headlines. Alcoholic ministers abound.

Or is it the money factor collected during the people’s war from the bank-loot which perhaps Mohan Baidya and his team were denied their fitting share? Money matters.

So many questions Mohan Baidya has to answer in order to convince the population when he is all set to expose his high level party colleagues.

Surprisingly, Mohan Baidya’s avowal of exposing his party comrades has come at a time when Nepal’s former sovereign has begun talking on matters related with Nepali nationalism upon his return from New Delhi wherein he is presumed to have been granted an “audience” by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi-the one who sidelined him in an unceremonious manner.

By the way, Sonia is ruling India mercilessly.

Look how the things have come to the fore.

Former Nepal King speaks on nationalism. Mohan Baidya coincidentally is speaking the same. Kamal Thapa has remained all along vocal on these lines. S. B. Thapa has some subtle message for erratic Nepali politicians. Deuba of the NC prefers revival of the 1990 constitution.

Analysts here wish to connect these utterances into a single chain wherein Thapa, Baidya and former King’s statements on nationalism could be definitely interwoven.  Add to this the fresh Deuba’s expressions.

This supposed link may not have any connections but yet the likelihood of such a secret link can’t be ruled out given the prevailing fragile political situation in the country and with India rethinking, as is being talked, on correcting its former flawed Nepal policy.

If so does it mean then that India prefers now to catapult the Nepali politics with the kind assistance of the hardliner panel of the Maoists? Is Mohan Baidya being seduced by the Indian regime?

Mind it, the CA body’s expiry is approaching fast. After all India, as usual and is the practice, has to handle the Nepal situation emerging after the expiry of the CA body tenure. Special prerogative that India has acquired out of our own follies.

Some sharp brains opine that former King is in close contact with Mohan Baidya and his team. Yet others claim that these “two” have intensified their secret meets. Though it remains yet to be substantiated.

Keep on guessing the political future course of this country which has at best turned into a political laboratory.
